Dash Berlin

Dash Berlin began in 2006 as a Dutch trio centred around producer Eelke Kalberg, vocal arranger Sebastiaan Molijn, and frontman Jeffrey Sutorius. Their 2008 single "Till the Sky Falls Down" — built around a soaring vocal hook and a cinematic breakdown — became one of the defining vocal trance tracks of the era and helped launch the duo's career on Armin van Buuren's Armada label. Their 2009 debut album The New Daylight produced multiple anthems including "Man on the Run" with Cerf, Mitiska & Jaren, and "Waiting" with Emma Hewitt. The follow-up #musicislife (2012) and We Are (2014) extended the formula. The United Destination compilation series became a fixture for fans of Anjunabeats-adjacent vocal trance. Through the early 2010s Dash Berlin became a globally touring brand, headlining Tomorrowland, Electric Daisy Carnival, and ASOT events worldwide, and consistently placing in the upper reaches of the DJ Mag Top 100. The project's status as commercially accessible "festival trance" attracted both massive crowds and pointed criticism from purists — a tension that has shaped the project's identity throughout its run. In 2018 the project went through a public dispute when Sutorius announced he was no longer involved; he later returned and reclaimed the Dash Berlin name through legal proceedings, and now performs as the principal frontman. Whatever one's feelings about commercial vs. underground trance, Dash Berlin's role in introducing millions of festival-goers to vocal trance is undeniable, and "Till the Sky Falls Down" remains a foundational record of the era.
