Richard Durand

Richard Durand, born Richard van Schooneveld in The Hague in 1977, is one of the longest-running producer/DJs in the modern Armada Music ecosystem. He started releasing as Richard Durand on Tiësto's Magik Muzik imprint in the early 2000s and built a steady catalogue across the late-2000s peak of vocal-uplifting trance. His most consequential editorial work was taking over the In Search of Sunrise compilation series from Tiësto in 2008 — Durand mixed and curated volumes 7 through 12, carrying the long-running Black Hole series across the period when Tiësto was transitioning out of trance. His 2008 album Always the Sun and tracks including "Wide Awake" (2010) cemented his place in the late-2000s Armada uplifting roster. His 2026 collaboration with Armin van Buuren and Dicosis, "Always You," was the official A State of Trance 2026 ELEVATION anthem timed for the 25-year ASOT festival editions at Ahoy Rotterdam — a release that placed Durand alongside van Buuren on the ASOT 25 anniversary moment, more than two decades into his career.
