Ronski Speed

Robert Burns, performing as Ronski Speed, has been one of the most consistent voices in European vocal trance since his late-90s debut on Hamburg's Euphonic label. He emerged in 1999 alongside the broader German vocal-trance lineage — Cosmic Gate, Roger Shah, Stoneface & Terminal — that established the meeting point between melodic uplifting and song-led production that the Black Hole / Anjunabeats axis would later refine. His debut album The Space We Are (2003) and follow-up E.O.S. (2004) sit in the canonical European vocal-trance tradition of their era — patient long-form arrangement, warm pad work, female-vocal collaborations that operate as song co-writes rather than features. Subsequent releases including Aerospace (2014 EP) and a long catalogue of collaborative singles have kept Burns active across two decades. His Sun Decade alias released the well-loved "Lasting Light" (2008) on Euphonic — a record that surfaced on multiple "best vocal trance" lists across the 2010s. Ronski Speed has built his catalogue through partnerships with vocalists Sir Adrian, Stine Grove, Renee Stahl, Aruna, and Emma Hewitt — a roster that places him at the centre of the late-2000s vocal-trance scene. His remix work spans Above & Beyond, Markus Schulz, and the broader Black Hole / Anjunabeats ecosystem, and the 2026 ASOT compilation features his "Without You" reactivated by Allen Watts. Ronski Speed productions are characterised by warmth and emotional sincerity rather than peak-time intensity — the sound that defined the Anjunabeats and Black Hole vocal-trance era of the mid-2000s and continues to inform his current catalogue.
