Biography

Nano Records was founded in 2001 by Regan Tacon (who also produces psytrance as Tristan) together with his brother Gareth Tacon and Anselm Guise. The label has its roots in the Cape Town, South Africa psytrance scene before establishing as a UK operation, providing a home for the kind of melodic, full-on psytrance that Tacon and his peers had been developing through the late 1990s. Over the following two decades it has grown into one of the most respected names in British and global psytrance. Nano's catalogue spans the major artists of UK and international psytrance: Tristan himself, Avalon, Outsiders, Burn in Noise, Killerwatts, Earthling, Electric Universe, and many others. The Nano Lounge and Future Frequencies compilation series have documented the label's evolving sound. Like Iboga, Nano sits at the more melodic, accessible end of the psytrance spectrum without compromising on the genre's core rhythmic and sound-design conventions. The associated Nano-branded events and the broader UK psytrance event scene that Nano helps sustain have made the label one of Europe's most active psytrance hubs. For UK psytrance specifically, Nano is the definitional label.
