Biography

TIP Records was founded in 1993 in Goa, India by Raja Ram, Graham Wood, and Ian St Paul, who were also active as the production project The Infinity Project (TIP). The label took its name from that project and became the central document of the original Goa trance sound — a label name that, alongside Dragonfly Records, defines an entire era of electronic music. TIP's mid-1990s catalogue is foundational psy-trance history: releases by Hallucinogen (Simon Posford), Doof, Total Eclipse, Slinky Wizard, X-Dream, and many of the artists who would shape the global psytrance scene. The Infinity Project's own album Mystical Experiences (1995) is a defining Goa-trance document. Raja Ram's later collaboration with Hallucinogen as Shpongle further extended TIP's influence into ambient, experimental, and modern psybient territory. The label has gone through various incarnations and is now operated as TIP World, continuing to release psytrance and historical reissues. For listeners interested in psytrance roots, TIP's catalogue is essential listening.
