Infected Mushroom

Infected Mushroom — the Haifa-based duo of Erez Eisen and Amit Duvdevani — is among the most musically restless projects in psytrance history. Active since 1996, their catalogue is now nearly thirty years deep and spans everything from classic Goa-influenced psytrance to progressive psy, electronica, dubstep, and rock-band-inflected live performance. Their early albums The Gathering (1999), Classical Mushroom (2000), and B.P.Empire (2001) are considered foundational documents of late-90s/early-2000s psytrance — heavily melodic, technically advanced, and emotionally complex in ways that pushed the genre's possibilities. From IM the Supervisor (2004) onwards they began incorporating vocals and rock structures, culminating in the genre-defying Vicious Delicious (2007), which contained the global crossover hit "Becoming Insane." Subsequent albums — Legend of the Black Shawarma (2009), Army of Mushrooms (2012), Converting Vegetarians II (2015), Head of NASA and the 2 Amish Boys (2018) — continued their refusal to settle into any single sound. They have collaborated with Steven Tyler, Pendulum, Skrillex, BT, and Perry Farrell, played as part of Robert Plant's tour, and frequently perform with a full live band rather than as a DJ set. Their willingness to treat psytrance as a starting point rather than a finishing point has frustrated some genre purists but won them an enormous following well beyond the psytrance world. Infected Mushroom are also notable for their longevity. Few electronic projects have remained creatively vital across three decades; few have refused to settle into nostalgia tours. They continue to record, tour, and experiment, and their live shows — often with full visuals, instrumentation, and theatrical staging — are among the most ambitious in any electronic music genre.
