Biography

Kyau & Albert is the German trance duo of Ralph Kyau and Steven Moebius Albert, two producers who first met in the summer of 1994 and released their debut single "Let Me In" in 1996. Ralph Kyau had been active in the German underground techno-and-trance circuit since the early 1990s — he had co-founded the small Harmony Recordings label with DJ Shandy in 1993 and put out his first record "Modulation Experiments" the same year — while Steven Albert was building his own production studio in parallel. After the two met, their studios merged and the project took shape under the name "Kyau vs. Albert", renamed to the current "Kyau & Albert" billing in 2006. In 1997 they founded Euphonic Records, which is widely cited as the longest continuously-running trance label in the world. Beyond their own catalogue, Euphonic has been the launch home for Ronski Speed and Sonorous, among others, and is the imprint around which the German melodic-trance lineage has clustered for nearly three decades. Signature Kyau & Albert tracks include "Outside" (2001), "Velvet Morning" (2003), "Made Of Sun" (2004), "Are You Fine?" (2006), and "Walk Down" — alongside the studio albums Here We Are Now (2004), Worldvibe (2006), and 15 Years (2012). Their 2010 Anjunabeats collaboration "Anphonic" with Above & Beyond, released on Anjunabeats Volume 8, is among the most-broadcast tracks in the catalogue and the clearest link between the German melodic lineage and the British progressive-trance world. The duo charted in the DJ Magazine Top 100 DJs poll four years running from 2007 to 2010, hosted the long-running Euphonic Sessions monthly radio show across AH.FM and DI.FM, and have continued releasing through the 2020s, including "Luminous" (Euphonic, 2025) and "Freeq" (Euphonic, 2026). Within the trance landscape they represent a particular German strand — melodic, vocal-inflected, patient in build — that connects the early-2000s Euphonic golden era to the current revival, and that has stayed editorially independent rather than getting absorbed into any of the larger label conglomerates.

Sound Style

Melodic vocal trance built around long-form lead-synth design and hook-led songwriting, with Steven Albert credited on lead vocals on a number of the duo's singles. The catalogue has moved across vocal-trance, melodic-progressive, and more recently tech-trance / driving-progressive territory, while remaining anchored to the Euphonic Records melodic-trance lineage and the wider Anjunabeats / Armada broadcast circuit.
