Sanne Boomhouwer, recording as Susana, was born on 8 April 1984 in Aalsmeer, Netherlands. She entered the trance scene in the early 2000s and broke through with "Shivers", a 2005 collaboration with Armin van Buuren that became a defining vocal-trance track of the era and announced her as a vocalist with the kind of harmonic clarity that the genre's arrangements specifically reward. Across the following two decades she became, by some distance, the most prolific and most-collaborated-with vocalist in trance. Her work with Markus Schulz on "First Time" (2008), with Dash Berlin on "Wired" (2010), with Aly & Fila on "Closer" (2010), and with Cosmic Gate on "Hold On" (2014) all became peak-time staples. Her catalogue, treated as a single body of work rather than a series of features, would be one of the largest in trance — running to dozens of records across nearly every major producer in the genre. Susana's distinctive contribution is the consistency rather than the experimentation. Where some vocalists chase stylistic reinvention across their careers, Susana's vocal sensibility has remained recognisably the same across twenty years — clean, direct, song-led, harmonic without ornamentation. Producers have repeatedly returned to her precisely because her voice fits the genre's structural conventions cleanly: she is the vocalist whose performance never has to be worked around. Beyond collaborations, Susana has released solo material and operated her own radio show. Her 2020 single "A Promise I Can't Keep" demonstrates that her vocal performance has lost none of the harmonic clarity that made the 2005 Armin work landmark. Her continued visibility on Coldharbour, Black Hole, and Armada catalogues across 2024-2026 keeps her as the genre's most enduring female vocal collaborator.
