Bedrock Records

Bedrock Records was founded in 1999 in London by John Digweed, taking its name from the production duo Bedrock (Digweed and Nick Muir) that had been releasing as Bedrock since the mid-1990s. The label was conceived as a long-running editorial home for the kind of patient, harmonically generous progressive trance and progressive house that Digweed had been championing on the global Renaissance / Northern Exposure / Global Underground compilation circuit. From the start, the label's curatorial standard was high — a deliberate counterpoint to the volume-driven trance industry of the late 1990s. Across more than two-and-a-half decades, Bedrock has released material from John Digweed himself (most prominently the long-running Live in / Live at compilation series and the Quattro / Layered Sounds curated mixes), Henry Saiz, Guy J, Hernan Cattáneo, Quivver, Nick Muir, Steve Parry, and a long list of progressive specialists. The label's Live in series (recorded sets from Digweed's residencies in cities including Cordoba, Cape Town, and Tokyo) has become one of the most-cited DJ-mix release series in dance music. Bedrock has also been a consistent reference point for the boundary between progressive trance, progressive house, and the slower end of tech-house — a boundary the contemporary scene continues to negotiate.
