Solstice Music was founded in 2000 in Stockholm by Tomas Hallqvist (Atmos) and Jorgen Dahlqvist (Spaceman), at the moment when Goa trance was transitioning into the broader modern psytrance form. The label was conceived as a Northern European editorial home for the slower, more melodic, harmonically-detailed end of psy that the Israeli full-on labels were not necessarily prioritising — a Scandinavian counterpart to the wider Israeli / UK / Danish psy axis.
Across 25+ years, Solstice has released the bulk of Atmos's solo catalogue and a long arc of Swedish, Northern European, and adjacent psy material from artists working in the progressive-psy, full-on, and Goa-revival spaces. The Solstice Music compilation series functions as the label's primary editorial document and is one of the genre's longer-running ongoing references. The label sits in the second tier of major psytrance institutions alongside Phantasm, Symbiosis, and Flying Rhino — well-respected, editorially disciplined, with a smaller but devoted audience that favours the melodic and patient end of the form over festival-mainstage anthemicism.
