Biography

Factor B is the production alias of Brendan Blatt, a Melbourne-based Australian trance DJ and producer who grew up in Bayside Melbourne and fell in love with trance around age 14 in 1999. He began as a vinyl-collecting DJ before moving into production after a short post-school producing course, and from there self-taught the rest of his studio chain. The catalogue's editorial centre of gravity is explicitly the classic 1999–early-2000s trance sound, which he has repeatedly described in interviews as the lineage he is trying to carry forward. His breakthrough came when his track "Stratos Galaxias" was picked up by UK duo Neptune Project, who opened their FSOE Colombia set with it in 2014 and then released it on their own Mythology Records in 2015. From there releases ran through Solarstone's Pure Trance (Factor B mixed a Pure Trance compilation for the label), Aly & Fila's Future Sound of Egypt, John O'Callaghan's Subculture, Amsterdam Trance, and Blue Soho — eight Beatport #1s and a touring profile that runs from intimate UK club nights up to Tomorrowland's mainstages. His most personal release to date is the 2025 album Theatre of the Mind: Bloom (In Loving Memory), released 17 January 2025 and dedicated to his late mother and fiancée — a record that pushed the catalogue further into the emotional / introspective uplifting lane. Within the broader scene Factor B sits among the small group of 2010s-onward producers actively reviving the classic-era uplifting aesthetic from inside the FSOE / Pure Trance editorial network, alongside names like Driftmoon, Darren Porter, and the Always Alive / Abora cluster, distinct from the harder Kearnage / Outburst 140 BPM lane.

Sound Style

Classic-era trance values carried into 2020s production: euphoric emotional melodies, orchestral pads, organic instrument layering and driving four-on-the-floor — explicitly anchored in the 1999–early-2000s aesthetic rather than the harder Kearnage / Outburst 140 lane.
